Bittersweet
Flying Crow Series 1 of 1
Pattern: $10
Quilt size 26" x 26"
Block size: 4.5"
Inspired by a full size vintage quilt from Carleton Co., ON Canada. I positioned the sawtooth border angles as they appeared in 1856! The colors remind me of bittersweet, found in the Pennsylvania woods. After the first frost, the berries burst forth the memorable red and orange you see here.
Pennsylvania Mustard
Flying Crow Series 2 of 4
Pattern: $10
Quilt Size: 42.5" x 53.5"
Block size: 6"
Looking at Pennsylvania side road landscapes, you find blue corn flowers and golden mustard plant blooming side by side. William Penn must have seen the same colorful roadside sight. The mustard plant was an historical source of dye for ancestors. This quilt boasts a border print fabric from the State Museum of Pennsylvania, c. 1820. Find your favorite border print fabric and make it fit!
Anniversary Quilt
Flying Crow Series #3 of 4
Pattern: $10
Quilt Size: 67.5" x 82.5"
Block size: 9"
"... all great things are simple!". The pieced lettering reveals our 30th anniversary date and sentiment. Document your moments forever. The value placement of this block and the solid center is in deference to the original quilt block from Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, which was inked with Fraktur inscriptions in the 1850s. Use the block centers as an opportunity to collect signatures and sentiments. Set with simple sashings, this quilt takes advantage of a printed stripe cut to different widths.
The Good Wife
Flying Crow Series 4 of 4
Pattern: $10
Quilt Size: 102" x 102"
Block size: 12"
This quilt has energy and the unexpected! Printed stripes, pillar print borders and that sawtooth border, rarely seen after the 1850s, take us to another era. The quilt itself speaks to contemporary bed size and interiors. "On the bed" side-view of this quilt is calm and inviting, while the front view is dramatic!
Medallion Madness
Pattern:$8.00
Quilt Size: 60" square
A center medallion framed by a series of borders is historically called a "frame" quilt. This pattern has four 12" basket blocks as its center (but you may chose to use something else!) and a series of pieced and appliqued borders. Fabric selection is based on value. You could make this quilt in any colorway, just keep the light, medium, and dark in their proper places. The pattern includes a special worksheet to help you stay organized while working with your choices.

A great queen size quilt for any bedroom. This version combines two vintage prints with contemporary bali prints. Any fabrics will work. Showcase your favorite fabric in the background and pull all the other colors from there! The oversize sawtooth border sits just off the top of the bed, giving drama to the quilt drop. 1850 Lemoyne Star
(Betty's Little Bitties)
Pattern: $5
Quilt Size: 16.25" square
Block Size: 4.5" square
Rather than miter the border as we might do today, I chose an unusal 1850s approach. Much like transferware china of the 1850s, the corner blocks of the quilt do not perfectly "register". Some match and some don't. The stars in this project were hand stamped and hand pieced. Directions are included for rotary cutting and piecing without the hand stamping method. If you chose to take the hand stamp approcah, the required set is called "Carpenter Star". Stamps are available from us when we vend at quilt shows, and online from cindyblackberg.com
Rolling Star
(Betty's Little Bitties)
Pattern: $5
Quilt Size: 32" square
Block Size: 6.75"
One evening on eBay, five antique "Rolling Star" quilt blocks went up for sale. Instead of bidding, I sketched the design, then gathered my set of star stamps and pink reproductions fabric. The result was the collection of beautiful blocks seen in this pattern. I am still making them! My second quilt will be a large one with alternate plain blocks. The stars in the project were hand stamped and hand pieced. Directions are included for rotary cutting and piecing without the hand stamping method. If you chose to use hand stamps, the required set is called "Carpenter Star". Stamps are available from us when we vend at quilt shows, and online from cindyblackberg.com
The Doll Quilt
(Betty's Little Bitties)
Pattern: $5
Quilt Size: 17" x 22"

Center Street
Pattern: $8.00
Quilt Size: 49" square
Block Size: 6" square
A smaller version of Heart and Home. For those who love paper-piecing, here is a double challenge. You start with a dozen 3" pieced blocks and then insert them into a larger 6" unit to create a dramatic house block. Add the ever popular log cabin blocks and you're on your way to completion of a wonderful little quilt. Pattern contains full size paper patterns for twelve 3" blocks, one 6" house block, and one 6" log cabin blocks, plus all applique and instructions.
Center Street Foundation Pack
Foundation pack: $12.00
Foundation pack contains foundations for twelve 3" blocks, twelve 6" house blocks, and thirty-seven 6" log cabin blocks (enough for the entire quilt top). The pre-printed foundation packet is shaded for accuracy and on excellent paper-piecing paper. It is a complete printing of all required blocks, ready to work with!
Old Growth
Pattern: $8.00
Quilt Size: 54" square
Block Size: 22.5" square
Stunning 4-block quilt that goes together easily. The original quilt has 4 "red fabrics" making up the triangle shading of the tree foliage. By using paper foundation triangles, they are all accurate with no need to square up. Utility quilting, using pearl cotton, is all part of the bold statement the quilt makes. Of course it can be quilted many other ways.
Nine of these trees, with adjusted sashing and borders, would make an impressive full or queen size quilt. A single block, set on point, can be graphic as well.
Red Baskets
Pattern: $8.00
Quilt Size: 49.5"square
Block Size: 8" square
Love the look but hate to make that many half-square triangles? Use 1 1/2" foundations to do so...quick and easy! Yes, you may turn the baskets anyway you chose. Pull your scraps and get to work on this beauty.
Settler's Star
Pattern: $8.00
Quilt Size: 71.75" x 82.5"
Block Size: 8" square
A great quilt layout, using a design stripe as vertical sashing and tiny inner border. If you love printed stripe fabrics and don't know where to use them, this is a good choice. The stars are cut from large prints....all of it...the backgrounds as well! Take a close look to see for yourself. The remainder of the fabrics are calm. Substitiute floral or bali or funky....no matter...the quilt design will carry it through.
